Building a Local Jumpers' Club: Meetups, Skills and Travel

Community

A jumpers' club is a group chat with standards. Meetups, shared bookings, maybe a yearly trip. It fails when it becomes a dare machine or a free tour-guiding service for strangers who do not follow safety rules.

Keep it small, boring, and useful.

Start with a purpose and a size limit

Purpose examples: quarterly socials, one organized group booking a year, skill talks from people who already jump (not from Instagram coaches). Cap membership if you cannot vet people. A club of eight who show up beats a list of 200 ghosts.

Rules that prevent peer pressure

  • Anyone can spectate with zero apology
  • No alcohol before jump activities - operators will refuse intoxicated participants anyway[1]
  • Medical and weight limits are individual; the club does not negotiate them at the desk
  • Money rules written before booking (deposits, cancel windows, no-shows)[1]
  • Staff instructions override club folklore every time

More on money: splitting group costs.

Meetups that are not only drinking

Watch official safety videos together. Compare operator policies. Practice longer exhales if people want - on the couch, not as a platform stunt. Share packing lists. Host a "first-timer questions" night with someone who has jumped and will not mock nerves.

If you invite an operator staffer to speak, treat them as a guest, not free marketing labor for a rival brand.

Travel as a club

One treasurer. Shared sheet. Book with operators that publish group contacts when the party is large enough (some brands want 10+ for group quotes).[2] Adventure insurance is still individual - the group chat is not a policy.[3]

After the trip: debrief what went well and what was chaotic. Drop members who only show up to film other people freezing.

Bottom line: small group, written money and consent rules, no alcohol before jumps, staff over folklore. A club should make the day safer and cheaper - not louder.
