G-force is just acceleration relative to Earth’s gravity, felt as weight. Sitting still you feel about 1 g. In freefall you feel near 0 g. When the cord catches you, loads climb above 1 g for a stretch of time.[1]
Nobody should quote a single "bungee peak g" as gospel. Setup, mass, cord, and technique all move the number. The phases are consistent even when the peaks are not.
Phase one: freefall (light)
Leave the platform and normal support vanishes. In freefall under gravity alone you feel weightless—0 g in the usual description of free-fall g-force.[1][2] Vestibular system panics. Stomach contents feel unmoored. That is expected novelty, not proof the cord failed.
Phase two: cord engagement (heavy)
As the cord stretches, you decelerate relative to freefall. Force rises. Harness presses. Blood and organs shift with orientation—especially head-down ankle jumps. This is the "heavy" second people remember in hips, back, or legs.
Medical screening exists partly because sudden load changes are a bad mix with certain spinal, cardiovascular, retinal, or pregnancy conditions. Operators publish exclusions for physiology, not bureaucracy.[3]
Phase three: rebound and hang
Acceleration reverses as elastic energy returns. You may feel light on the way up, then loaded again at the top of a bounce. Peaks generally drop as the system damps. At hang you are back near 1 g, swinging, waiting for retrieval—often the first quiet moment to notice what aches.
How this compares to other thrills
Roller coasters can hit notable g with engineered curves. Trained pilots with g-suits handle sustained high +g that would drop an untrained tourist. Commercial bungee is designed for a wide public inside narrower envelopes—not a centrifuge contest.[1]
Subjective "violence" is not only peak g. Duration, height cues, harness type, and anxiety amplify the story your brain writes. Two jumpers on similar peaks can disagree completely.
Practical body notes
Hydrate. Do not invent a huge greasy meal right before. Follow arm and chin instructions. Disclose medical history. If you get chest pain, vision changes, or a severe headache after a jump, get medical care—do not tough it out for the afterparty.

Bottom line: light in freefall, heavy on the catch, wavy on the bounce, roughly 1 g at hang. Respect screening. Ignore random peak-g memes without a method.
