At sites like Queenstown’s Nevis playground, operators spell it out: bungy is pure freefall down the valley with rebound bounces; the swing pulls you into a giant arc (they market a 300 m swing) with style options that bungy does not always allow.[1][2]

Sensation split

Bungee: step off, freefall, cord catch, bounces. Vertical story with a rubbery twist.[3]

Canyon swing: drop into a curve, speed along an arc, longer scenic hang time. Feels more like a giant rope ride than an elastic freefall.[1]

If you specifically want “I stepped into empty air and freefell,” bungy is the cleaner match. If you want “I flew a curve through the gorge,” pick the swing.

Fear profiles and inversion

Edge commitment is high for both. Bungee fear often centers on freefall and cord trust. Swing fear often centers on the horizontal rush and being thrown through space.
