Bungee culture loves a number. Highest platform. Longest freefall. Most jumps in a day. Some figures are adjudicated. Many are marketing. Separate what you can buy a ticket for from one-off stunts.
For travelers, commercial height claims matter more than balloon-from-a-helicopter folklore.
Highest commercial jumps people actually book
Macau Tower (building): AJ Hackett's site promotes a roughly 233 m commercial bungy from the tower. Guinness lists the highest commercial bungee jump facility (building) there at about 232.82 m.[1][2]
Bloukrans Bridge (bridge): Face Adrenaline / Bloukrans Bungy markets a 216 m bridge jump in South Africa's Tsitsikamma - widely called among the highest commercial bridge bungys.[3]
"Highest" depends on category: building vs bridge vs dam vs crane. Compare like with like. A dam stunt film set is not the same product as a daily tourist bridge.
Stunt and media records
Early publicity stunts - Eiffel Tower 1987, TV crane jumps, film openings - set cultural records more than bookable ones. The GoldenEye opening used a stunt jump from the Verzasca (Contra) Dam in Switzerland; a tourist jump exists there now because of the film, not the other way around.[4][5]
Guinness and similar bodies log specific titles with methods. Screenshots of "world record" graphics without a primary listing are wallpaper.
What records do not tell you
Height is not a safety grade. A lower bridge with dual checks beats a tall platform with sloppy process. Weight limits, weather holds, and retrieval plans matter more than bragging rights.[6]
"Most jumps" endurance marks are operator or athlete marketing. They do not transfer to your first jump day.
How to use records when planning
Pick a height band you actually want. Read the operator's product page for free-fall length, weight range, and what is included. Ignore leaderboard blogs that recycle the same five numbers without sources.
Bottom line: Bookable commercial highs (Macau Tower building, Bloukrans bridge, and peers) are the useful records. Everything else is stunt history or marketing - verify the category before you care.
