The Bloukrans Bridge bungy is a 216 m jump from the underside of a concrete arch bridge on South Africa's N2 highway, in the Tsitsikamma area of the Garden Route [1][2]. It has been run by Face Adrenalin since 1997 [3]. As of October 26, 2026, the jump costs R1,690 (about US$102) booked on the operator's own booking site [4][5].

How high is the Bloukrans bungee?
The jump is 216 m, the height of the bridge deck above the river [1][2]. The bridge was built between February 1980 and June 1983 and opened on 10 June 1983. It is 451 m long with a central arch span of 272 m, and it carries the N2 across the Bloukrans River, which marks the border between the Western Cape and Eastern Cape [2]. The operator calls it Africa's highest bridge [1].
For years Bloukrans was described as the world's highest commercial bridge bungee. That is no longer true. In January 2019 Guinness World Records certified a 370.25 m bungee platform on the Balinghe Bridge in Guizhou, China, as the highest commercial bungee jump facility [7]. The bridge does hold one well-known record. On 10 April 2010 Mohr Keet jumped here aged 96 years and 4 days, which Guinness lists as the oldest bungee jump [8].
How the jump works
The operator describes the sequence in four steps [1]:
- Harness up. You wear a full-body harness plus an ankle connection.
- Jump. You step off the platform under the road deck and fall toward the gorge.
- Winch. A crew member is lowered on a winch line to reach you and bring you back up, so you ride up sitting upright rather than hanging by your ankles.
- Skywalk. You return along the suspended catwalk beneath the bridge, where you can watch and buy your photos and video.

Photo and video packages are sold separately. You can add them while booking or buy them after the jump, and the operator keeps footage for a month if you want it later [6]. Age, weight and health rules
Jumpers must be at least 14 and weigh between 35 kg and 150 kg [6]. There is no fitness test. The operator lists conditions it wants to discuss before you jump, including pregnancy, high blood pressure, heart conditions, neurological disorders, epilepsy, knee or back problems, and conditions of the skeleton, muscles or nervous system. Wear clothes you can move in and proper shoes, and skip skirts, since you will be in a harness [6].
Weather and booking
Bloukrans jumps in rain. It stops for electrical storms and gale-force winds. If they have to pause, they reschedule you; if that is not possible you can take a voucher for another date or a full refund [6].
The operator recommends booking at least 48 hours ahead, and well in advance during South African school holidays [6]. Check-in is one hour before your jump time, except the 9 am slot, which checks in at 8:30 [4].
Bringing friends who won't jump
Spectators can watch from the restaurant at the site or book the Skywalk tour, which takes them out onto the bridge to watch the jumps up close [6]. The Skywalk is open to anyone aged 8 or over, up to 150 kg [6].
Getting there
The bridge is on the N2, about 30 km east of Plettenberg Bay and just under two hours' drive west of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) [11].
- From Cape Town and Plettenberg Bay: follow the N2 east past Plettenberg Bay for about 30 km to the Tsitsikamma toll plaza. About 2.5 km after it you drive over the bridge; shortly afterwards turn left into Tsitsikamma Forest Village and follow signs to the bungy parking [11].
- From Gqeberha: drive about 190 km along the N2 toward Cape Town. Around 24 km past Storms River Village, turn right at the Tsitsikamma Forest Village / Bungy Jumping sign [11].
Is Bloukrans safe?
Face Adrenalin says it has a 100% safety record and follows international industry standards, with its equipment under internal quality controls [10].
