North America is not Queenstown. Permanent, high-volume commercial bungy is thinner. That is not a crisis—it means you plan around the sites that publish hours and limits instead of assuming every canyon bridge is jumpable.
Canada's reliable flagship: Great Canadian Bungee
Chelsea, Quebec—about 30 minutes north of Ottawa, ~2.5 hours west of Montreal. Highest commercial jump in Canada over a lagoon they describe as ~160 ft deep / ~20-story platform. Season roughly May 1–October 31 daily. Weight about 80–315 lb for bungy. Arrive 45 minutes early (1 hour for large groups). Rain often still runs; severe wind, intense rain, or lightning can delay.[1]
Optional water dip at jump-master discretion. No tandem. Spectators stay in designated areas—not on the platform. Full payment at booking; change-of-date windows apply. This is the default domestic recommendation for many first-timers who will not fly to New Zealand for jump one.
United States: thinner map, more caveats
US commercial bungy is often seasonal, event-based, or tied to adventure parks that open and close products. Do not treat the Royal Gorge Bridge as a walk-up bungy ticket. The park sells skycoaster, zip, via ferrata, and bridge tourism; traditional bungy has historically been tied to special events (e.g. Go Fast Games style), not daily ops. Check the park's current activity list—not a 2008 blog.[2]
Mobile crane operators and state-fair style setups appear in summer. Some are insured and competent. Some are not. Demand written weight limits, harness process, and insurance clarity. If the only pitch is a price on a sandwich board, walk away.
How to plan a domestic jump weekend
- Book the known operator first; build travel around their open season.
- Read cancel and weather rules before nonrefundable flights.
- If you want bigger meters than Canada offers, plan international (Bloukrans, Macau, Nevis) as a separate trip—not a surprise side quest.[3][4]
Bottom line: for reliable North American commercial bungy, start with Great Canadian Bungee near Ottawa. Everywhere else, verify season and product status. Famous US canyons are not automatic jump sites.
